Mr. Mike KASDAN

Michael is founder and head of IIPCC NYC. He is a partner in Intellectual Property Practice of Wiggin and Dana LLP’s New York office. Before joining Wiggin and Dana LLP as part of a group that launched their IP litigation and licensing practice, Michael worked at the IP boutique, Amster Rothstein & Ebenstein LLP, and at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

 

Michael also teaches as an Adjunct Professor at his alma mater, NYU School of Law, addressing topics such as IP Licensing and global patent litigation. Prior to entering private practice, he clerked for the Honorable Judge Roderick R. McKelvie in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

 

He frequently writes and speaks on a range of topics including IP litigation, essential patents, patent monetization and licensing practices, patent eligibility, patent exhaustion, willful infringement, patent misuse, patent valuation and inequitable conduct. Most recently, he authored the chapter on Patent Licensing and Monetization in the OXFORD HANDBOOK OF IP LAW (Eds. Dreyfuss and Pila, 2018). He has appeared on numerous television networks, including CNN, Headline News, and CNBC, and has been a keynote speaker for American Lawyer Media conferences.

 

During 2008-2009, Mike was seconded to Panasonic Corporation in Japan. As in-house patent counsel in Panasonic’s licensing center, he acted as lead counsel representing the company in numerous third-party patent assertions and license negotiations and counseled Panasonic on patent monetization.

 

Mike received his J.D. Magna Cum Laude, from New York University School of Law. He was a member of the Order of The Coif; Fish & Neave Fellow for the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy, Law Review Alumni Association Award (2nd highest GPA in class); Morton Geller Award for outstanding contribution to the NYU Law Review as Notes Editor; NYU Law Review Notes Ed., Editor, 2000-2001, Staff Editor, 1999-2000. InSITE NY Student Fellow, 2000-2001; President, Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Society, 2000-2001. 

He graduated B.S.E. Magna Cum Lauda, from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honor Societies, and a member of Penn Parliamentary Debate Team.

 

He is a NY Super Lawyer and a member of the Top 300 World’s Leading IP Strategists (IAM Magazine).
